Wilderness della Val Montina

Since 1994, the territory of the Val Montina was included among the Italian Wilderness Areas , areas where the environment is protected wild and protected natural resources .
Enclosed between two ridges , one that departs from Mount Duranno to the west and one that departs from Top of the Friars to the east , the area is located in the Municipality of Perarolo di Cadore (BL) , in the Belluno Dolomites.
The message can guide the visitor in the choice of routes , including easy paths through forests , trails more “wild” for skilled hikers , gorges adapted for climbing and wetlands, havens of biodiversity.
Thanks also to the influence of man , in fact , many species of birds to the area for play or stop during long migrations , so summer is not uncommon to encounter the Black Kite or the cuckoo . The majority of the birds are migratory , however , such as the hawk, golden eagle , the black grouse , the capercaillie , the Treecreeper etc. .. As among the mammals we find the Hare and Alpine , the squirrel , the Marmot, the Fox and some ungulates such as deer , roe deer and chamois, the most represented species in the area.
The nature and microclimates of the valley also create ideal conditions for the life of typical plants such as Sandstone huteri , Campanula Moretti , the rhaeticum Papaver ( Poppy alpine ) and Cypripedium calceolus ( the Liner of Our Lady ) and pine forest formations mountain pine , larch, fir and red, black pine and many more.
The whole area is Site of Community Interest (SCI) and Special Protection Area (SPA ) and is therefore included in the NATURA 2000 network .
